Well put! I struggle with this all the time when I work with non profits and organizations regarding disability issues. My name placard is always stamped with “self-advocate” when my invitation to the table is also based on the fact I’m graduating with my doctorate in December. I’m trying to carve out my own space and my own identifier that reflects what I’m truly bringing to the work as a professional with lived experience. I’ll keep thinking — keep me posted :)
